Amsterdam, June 1
MIMAKI ENGINEERING CO., LTD. (The head office: Nagano, Japan, President: Akira Ikeda) announces the new grand-format solvent inkjet printer JV5-320S and the new wide-format inkjet printers JV33-130 and JV33-160. The JV5-260S can print 2.6 m (102“) wide and the JV5-320S can print 3.2m wide (128”). At a resolution of 540 x 1,080dpi the printer realizes a speed of 42m2 (452sq.ft.) (JV5-320). The JV33-130 and JV33-160 that succeed the JV3 series, a product that has received great reviews since its launch in 2002, print high quality images at 540dpi x 1,080dpi at 11.9m2 /h (128sq.ft./h) for an affordable price.
Mimaki introduced the JV3-130S and JV3-160S in 2002. These printers dispelled the commonly held belief that a solvent inkjet printer could not achieve both high definition and quality prints, while maintaining vivid colors. Last year Mimaki once again introduced a revolutionary ultra-high speed, high-quality solvent inkjet printers with the JV5-130S and JV5-160S. However, as the market for solvent inkjet printers has matured we discovered that the market begun to divide into two segments. The first segment is the demand for high speed printing on a grand scale with higher print quality. The second segment is the demand for lower-priced solvent inkjet printers that maintain rapid print speed and quality printing.
“The two types of printers we are announcing today can satisfy these market’s two main needs: first the market for grand format prints produced quickly while maintaining quality and second the market for a more affordable-priced printer that is able to produce at a fast speed and to deliver high quality output. By introducing these models we believe we can meet the various market needs.” said Akira Ikeda, President of Mimaki Engineering.
The JV5-320S is a grand-format printer that has the features of the JV5-130S and JV5-160S while maintaining high print speeds and high print resolution, even for very large format prints. Unlike conventional grand-format printers that make only low-resolution prints, the JV5-320 has a high resolution setting of 1,440dpi and create high resolution prints at 540 x 1,080dpi printing at a speed of 42m2 (452sq.ft/hr.). Signage created for up-close viewing can also be printed at (540 x 720dpi) resuling in a speed of 60m2 (645sq.ft./hr). The models are equipped
with a feeding and take-up device to securely feed even heavy media over 100kg (220lbs.). Also the JV5-320S has the same state-of-the-art functions of the JV5-130S and JV5-160S, such as UISS (double cartridge automatic change function) for continuous printing without worrying about running out of ink, and an automatic nozzle drop-out detection and recovery system. Furthermore the new models are compatible with both types of Mimaki solvent inks. HS ink has a high scratch resistance and dries fast and ES3 ink generates fewer odors and is therefore especially suitable for general offices that do not have a ventilation system.
The JV33-130 and JV33-160 have the same print head as the JV5 series which has 8 lines of 180 nozzles (total 1,440 nozzles). These print heads can reach print speeds 30% faster than the JV3 series. Signage for up-close viewing can also be printed at 540 x 1,080dpi, resulting in a print speed of 11.9m2/h (128sq.ft./h). Having only one head helps in preventing alignment
errors when setting the heads. A symmetric ink arrangement (MCYKKYCM) and newly developed 16 bit rendering function of the standard RIP, enhances print quality. In addition to pre-print heaters, a post heater has been added to shorten the drying time of the ink on the media, which enables a faster take-up of the printed media. The JV33 series is also equipped with an UISS (uninterrupted ink supply system) that can be used during the 4-colour print mode. This feature allows the printer to produce large prints (long runs) without worrying about running out of ink. There are 4 ink types available for the JV33 series; SS21 ink, including white ink, ES3 ink as solvent inks?aqueous pigment ink and dye sublimation ink.
Both new printer models have standard RIP software (Raster link Pro) which has a 16 bit rendering function for smoother gradation.
