Innovative ideas to discover at the Mimaki booth presenting at LUXE PACK and Print in Progress

Demonstrating unlimited possibilities for digital print in packaging, visual communications and retail at two important trade show events

Mimaki will be showcasing innovative solutions for packaging, visual communications and retail enabled by digital printing at two important French events this autumn. At LUXE PACK, scheduled for 1 to 3 October in Monaco, visitors to Mimaki’s Booth #DD02BIS will see how easy and effective it is to take luxury packaging to a new dimension with UV and 3D inkjet printing. At Print in Progress, scheduled for 10 to 11 October in Paris, visitors to Mimaki’s Booth E50 will learn how easy it is to produce personalised promotional items as well as stunning signs, interior décor and more. At both shows, Mimaki experts will be on hand to discuss the business needs and potential solutions with attendees.

“While digital printing is certainly not new, its applications continue to expand and grow across a number of industry segments,” said Ronald van den Broek, General Manager Sales EMEA, of Mimaki. “At each of these shows, we will be highlighting some of the more innovative and unique ways to make packaging, signs and visual communications more compelling. We believe brand owner attendees will leave our booths with many ideas that will help them market their products better, while printers and converters will learn about new products and services they can offer to their brand owner customers.”

One of the key differentiators of digital printing is the ability to produce cost-effective personalised, customised or small lot items. For example, at Print in Progress, Mimaki will be showing its UJF-6042MkII flatbed printer producing personalised promotional items, packaging and other retail products, while the JV150 will be printing signs and other visual communications. Mimaki will also be printing wallpaper and other interior décor items on the UCJV300 series – a compact footprint that delivers printing and cutting inline for a finished product.

At LUXE PACK, the UJF-3042MkII flatbed printer will be printing directly on perfume bottles and other premium packaging, and its optional Kebab unit will be printing directly on the 360° surface of cylindrical items such as wine bottles. Visitors to the Mimaki booth will also be able to see samples of full-colour 3D printing produced by the Mimaki 3DUJ-553, capable of printing up to 10 million different colours. Product Manager Bert Benckhuysen will be joining a panel discussion at the show on 2 October from 10:45 to 12:00: Additive Manufacturing in the Service of the Luxury Brands – New Solutions and Experiences. This is sure to be a lively discussion that will present many novel ways in which 3D printing can be used for packaging, promotional items and more.

“We’re very excited about participating in these two important shows,” van den Broek added. “The energy level at these shows is high, and visitors come ready to learn and looking for new things. They will certainly not be disappointed when they stop by the Mimaki booth!”

New clear ink enhances versatility for Mimaki’s award-winning UCJV300 series

Clear ink added to the GREENGUARD Gold certified LUS-170 UV-LED curable inks

Mimaki today announces the availability of new LUS-170 Clear Ink to be used on the UCJV300 Series. The additional LUS-170 clear ink offers a host of new design possibilities and expands business opportunities by creating compelling displays using gloss, matte or textured finish.

”With the availability of this clear ink for UCJV300 series, we have employed our proprietary Mimaki Mimaki Clear Control (MCC) technology for the first time in a roll-to-roll printer,” said Ronald van den Broek, General Manager Sales EMEA of Mimaki Europe. “This unique feature shortens the time needed for ink curing to prevent dust from sticking, ensuring smoother, cleaner clear effects, such as matte or glossy finish. We believe this new ink opens up more possibilities for Mimaki users and enhances the versatility of our award-winning UCJV300 series even further.”

To simplify the process of creating clear effects, Mimaki also offers the ARTISTA UV Textile Library, which users can access when they install Mimaki’s RasterLink6Plus RIP software on a UCJV300 printer. The ARTISTA UV Texture Library features 129 texture swatches for use in Adobe Illustrator to add even more visual effects.

About the Mimaki UCJV300 Series

Available in four different print widths ranging from 80cm to 1.6m, the Mimaki UCJV300 series delivers a remarkable range of applications and versatility with layered print technology, including newly developed four-layer and five-layer capabilities. Their integrated cut functionality enables volume production of labels, decals, window clings, vehicle markings and more. Utilising flexible UV inks that cure instantly, allows customers to quickly print and immediately laminate or deliver the finished product without waiting for drying. In addition, these printers also feature white ink, enabling users to produce brilliant colours on transparent, coloured or metallic substrates.

With its layered printing capability, the UCJV300 series can deliver dynamic backlit graphics, or graphics that are transformed with different light sources, which are certain to command high margins. UV-curable inks also offer greater opacity with less ink consumption than other ink formulations. Moreover, Mimaki’s LUS-170 ink is GREENGUARD Gold certified

New Mimaki Printer Launches the Next (R)evolution in Textile Printing

TS55-1800 makes high-end features available to everyone, including low-running costs, industry-leading productivity and reliability

Mimaki today announced the launch of the Mimaki TS55-1800, a revolutionary new digital heat transfer sublimation printer, that brings high-end features to the entry and mid-level market. These include high-speed one-pass printing at a high-resolution and high ink-density, unattended printing with the new Mini Jumbo Roll and Mimaki’s Nozzle Check and Recovery System for continuous operation.

With the release of the TS55-1800, Mimaki delivers on making high-end digital textile printing features available to a much broader market. Now, textile professionals can effortlessly scale their operation with an affordable heat sublimation printer that meets the high quality and fast turnaround times demanded in the dynamic textile and apparel industry. The new model prints at a resolution of 480×600 dpi with a high ink density using one-pass printing at 140 sqm/h (1,506 sq.ft/h). In addition, the unique Mimaki Advanced Pass System (MAPS4) improves the quality of two-pass printing by eliminating banding. The TS55-1800 achieves all this with low running costs and the high-productivity and reliability that Mimaki products are known for.

“The TS55-1800 is a breakthrough digital textile printer, that will surely cause a stir in the market,” said Bert Benckhuysen, senior product manager at Mimaki Europe. “It has been designed from the ground up to deliver high quality, industry-leading productivity and an operational cost that will be hard to beat.”

Unattended printing

One of the key features of the TS55-1800 is the optional use of new Mini Jumbo Roll unit that can continuously feed 2,500 linear meters of heat transfer paper to the printer. This enables customers to substitute the use of Small Plotter Rolls with Mini Jumbo Rolls, which can save them over 20% in print media cost. Furthermore, Mini Jumbo Rolls of Mimaki Vision Jet-X transfer paper, supplied by Neenah Coldenhove, will be offered as package deal with the TS55-1800. The 2,500 m1 Mini Jumbo Rolls are the ideal way to upgrade to high-volume unattended textile printing. In addition, the printer is fitted with the unique Mimaki Nozzle Check and Recovery System and 10-liter ink tanks, which ensure failsafe continuous operation for extended operational periods, such as overnight-unattended printing.

Higher profitability

Mimaki offers its customers a high return on investment with the TS55-1800 that will be sold at a very competitive price-point.

“The Mimaki TS55-1800 offers the best specifications for the best price,” said Benckhuysen “According to our projections, textile professionals can reduce their operational cost by using this new printer and double their annual profit. This is truly revolutionary, and we believe it will make a huge contribution to the ongoing analogue-to-digital transformation underway in the industry.”

The new printer will be on first public display at three upcoming trade shows:

RUDI a.s. Improves Customer Service, Broadens Range of Offerings, in Partnership with Mimaki and SPANDEX

RUDI a.s., based in the Czech Republic, was founded in 1990 as a privately-held company, transforming itself into a joint stock company in 1995. The company boasts a wide range of client services around offset, digital and large format printing; graphic design; and prepress preparation. RUDI has always been dedicated to staying up with technology trends to be able to offer superior quality services that set them apart in the marketplace. Product offerings comprise display graphics (including vehicle wraps and bus shelters), marketing collateral, business cards and letterhead, menus, web and graphic design, and promotional items such as jigsaw puzzles, flags, stickers, mouse pads, calendars and more.

“In order to retain our market leadership,” said Daniel Růžička, RUDI Co-Founder, “we decided to replace our three older eco-solvent printers with a more modern solution that would expand our range of services even more while increasing throughput and allowing us to reduce the amount of outsourced work we had. We were pleased with the Japanese quality of the Mimaki printers, as well as the exceptional service from SPANDEX. We could have purchased a printer from China at a lower price, but service and support can be an issue. We needed a relationship that assured both quality and maximum up-time. We have not been disappointed.” RUDI chose to install a Mimaki UJV55-320 super wide format UV-LED printer, a 3.2-meter roll-to-roll model featuring seven ink colours including white for printing on transparent or coloured media.

The day the new printer was installed was exciting for two reasons. First, the installation process was tricky, since the printer was installed through an attic window that was only 2 cm wider than the printer. Using a crane and expert operators, this process was accomplished smoothly. Even more exciting according to Růžička, was the fact that the printer was installed in one morning, with training the following day. “In just two days, we were up and running, and producing billable work. It was an amazing experience,” he added.

Why Mimaki?

Růžička chose UV LED technology due to its many benefits, including:

  • The long lifespan of LED lamps compared to conventional lamps.
  • The fact that LEDs do not need to be heated and cooled, but only switched on and off – for an immediate start.
  • The ability to cure at a low temperature, without damage to heat-sensitive materials that are less expensive and cost less to ship.
  • Low power consumption (a 220v connection is sufficient for the printer).

Růžička noted, “This and other investments ensure we have sufficient production capacity, giving us the throughput speed required in today’s fast-paced market while preventing unnecessary price increases we might face if we had to outsource the work. By staying current with technology and ensuring adequate capacity, we can produce most, if not all, of our work internally. That is the goal.”

New Opportunities

Růžička comments that in addition to more capacity and improved quality, he is excited about UV LED printing technology as an opportunity to expand his offerings, saying, “Direct UV printing also opens the door for us to print directly on rigid materials such as foam core, wood, plastic and glass up to 2 x 3 meters and 45 mm thick. Other wide format products that are better suited to this technology include our vehicle wraps and bus shelters as well as wall coverings.”

Enthusiastic and Timely Support

RUDI has also been pleased with the support it is receiving from both Mimaki and SPANDEX. “We like the fact that there is local support,” Růžička stated. “As I mentioned, we could have acquired a printer out of China for less up-front money, but we risked greater costs in the long run. If there is a printer issue and you are looking for support from China, it is difficult to get that support quickly, even online, due to the time difference. When this happens, work stops, deliveries are late, and our reputation declines. For that reason, we place emphasis on prompt, high quality service and the availability of timely in-person, online or telephone consultation. SPANDEX has a sufficient number of service technicians, offers a 24-hour service guarantee, deliveries of materials through its own distribution channel and other services facilitating our work. Plus, they know the Mimaki printer line inside-out. In addition, there is a team of pleasant and stable employees working at SPANDEX, with whom you can quickly create personal relationships. For these reasons, Mimaki and SPANDEX were the clear choice for us.”

This is definitely a show not to be missed!”
