Mimaki to unveil next generation large format printers and cutters

Driving the evolution of wide format digital printing towards ultra-efficient, cost-effective and sustainable production processes, Mimaki Europe, a leading manufacturer of inkjet printers and cutting systems, announces today the launch of its Plus series, the next generation of its industry-acclaimed large-format printing and cutting solutions. Debuting worldwide at The Print Show (NEC Birmingham, UK, 17–19 September), the brand-new CJV300 Plus, JV300 Plus and CG-FXII Plus will be on display on Stand E10, Hall 9 where Mimaki will be represented by its authorised UK distributor, Hybrid Services.

Building on the legacy of Mimaki core technologies, the new Plus series – consisting of three models, namely the CJV300 Plus integrated solvent printer/cutter, the JV300 Plus solvent printer, and the CG-FXII Plus cutting plotter – boasts substantial productivity increases on previous models, in addition to delivering superior print quality at faster printing speeds. This is enabled by MAPS4, the latest version of the Mimaki Advanced Pass System which uses a unique algorithm to calculate the most effective way of jetting ink drops to avoid visible banding. This constantly changes depending on ink colour, coverage and print speed. Reliable productivity is assured with Mimaki’s pioneering NCU (Nozzle Check Unit) and NRS (Nozzle Recovery System), while a brand-new, advanced Take-Up device enables the handling of rolls up to 45kg – preventing media shifting and ensuring a smoother, more efficient production process.

The Plus series models also feature new, proprietary ID Cut function. This innovative functionality has been developed to enable continuous cutting operations on multiple jobs, with minimal human intervention, time, or material waste. The ID Cut function consists of printing ID barcodes in the layout of print and cut jobs – through Mimaki’s RasterLink6 Plus RIP – with the code including cutting and rotation information. By reading each unique barcode, the crop mark sensor automatically loads and executes cutting, ensuring that all alignment and rotational requirements are observed. Whilst both the CJV300 Plus and the CG-FXII Plus feature the ID Cut function, the JV300 Plus can be used in combination with the CG-FXII Plus to take full advantage of the new functionality.

“Once again Mimaki is pushing the boundaries of innovation in the wide format printing industry,” claims Bert Benckhuysen, Senior Product Manager EMEA, Mimaki Europe. “Each innovation we introduce to the market stems from our close observation of industry trends and of our customers’ needs, as well as extensive R&D. The unprecedented quality and productivity gains that the Plus series provides, combined with an environmentally friendly vision, make each new model a very compelling proposition for those print service providers aiming at boosting their competitiveness, whilst at the same time optimising their production workflow.”

As part of the “Mimaki Green Technology” concept, the company is also introducing new 600ml ink packs and reusable eco cases on the Plus series. Designed to ensure smarter, more sustainable printing processes, the new ink eco cases provide larger run capacity and 15% savings on ink consumption when compared with the 440ml cartridges. In addition, the eco cases can be reused extensively, further contributing to making the Plus Series an eco-friendly, cost-effective choice for large format print service providers.

Following the launch at The Print Show, the CJV300 Plus, JV300 Plus and CG-FXII Plus will also be exhibited at Salon C!Print, (Madrid, Spain, 24–26 September) on the Digidelta booth (Stand C51) and at Viscom Italia (Fiera Milano, Italy, 10-12 October) on the Bompan booth (Hall 8, Stand E23/E27/G20/G26).

* The CJV300-160 Plus is equipped with the new ID Cut function for the most efficient print and cut operation possible.
* The JV300-160 Plus features the latest version of Mimaki Advanced Pass System (MAPS), producing even higher quality during high speed printing.
* The CG-FXII Plus Series will be available in three different widths – 75cm, 130cm and 160cm.

Direct-to-textile printing?

Mimaki dealer TTS makes online business happen for Onlineshopz

Onlineshopz gets all its Mimaki printers from TTS and Dimix. Since 2015, TTS delivered about four Mimaki direct-to-textile printers and two Monti Antonio calenders. Dimix supplied the UV and solvent printers. And just recently, the company invested in the revolutionary Mimaki Tx300P-1800 direct-to-textile printer.

Onlineshopz is a production company based in Denenkamp, bordering the Dutch-German frontiers. Its owners are two thirty-something entrepreneurs, Bjorn Wissink and Maarten Sinnema. They started out selling Skydancers and Skytubes under the Airlusion- umbrella (this was the original name of the company they started). Wanting to do something unique with blow-up dolls brought about the invention of the dancing doll, powered by an air blower. Originally, they intended to rent it out. But they ended up selling the dolls and branched out in delivering other printed textile products. Supported by the TTS distributors and the Mimaki printers, their idea quickly turned into a thriving reality.

Direct to textile

Onlineshopz bought its first printer and calender in 2015. Bjorn: “We bought the Mimaki JV33 in 2015 at TTS’. And got it remodeled for direct-to-textile printing. We created the skytubes from spinnaker cloth. That was exceptionally unique in The Netherlands. We completely created the product from start to finish ourselves. We had the equipment, we could print the fabrics and had confection expertise. The printer was just located in the hall, we hadn’t even moved office. We were supposed to keep the printer in a climatized environment, but we had no clue. Printers weren’t our scene, we just knew how to rent and sell.”

A production of their own

Bjorn and Maarten had vision. They didn’t just want to sell, they also wanted to own the production. That also implied printing themselves. They were in touch with TTS about textile. Maarten: “TTS knew it would be more than just skytubes. So, they advised us to use equipment that would enable us to also service other textile markets. We thought that was a tricky decision to make. I’m a psychotherapist originally and Bjorn is a business IT specialist – neither of us knew print. At all. We took a blind leap of faith and put our trust in our TTS supplier’s advice. It turned out really well.”

Expanding the range

The company started out with skytubes, but found itself quickly churning out flags, banners, beach flags and other printed textile items. All available for online sales via different vertical webshops, collated under the onlineshopz.nl mothership.

Each product is produced in house. The equipment has grown substantially in three years’ time, with solutions for sewing, sawing, printing and mounting. The building is filled with all kinds of machines. Bjorn: “If we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it ourselves. It’s the only way we can remain competitive and successful in this market.” The business is running on 22 people so far and it delivers about 100 orders per day on average.

Textile printer

The latest printer TTS delivered, is the Mimaki Tx300P-1800. Michel Prins is the designated account manager. “If you’re looking for Skydancers, there’s only Airlusion. No one else can pull off what they do.” The cooperation between both parties facilitated the complex printing process that is direct printing onto textile. The best validation for Onlineshopz that it chose the best supplier. The printer that is currently installed is designed specifically for printing directly onto textile. “Mimaki is the only supplier that creates printers that are this high-level. They keep innovating textile printing and it shows in the Mimaki Tx300P-1800.”

The only thing holding back the growth of Onlineshopz is its production area. There are plans for a new hall expansion. Up next: new, vertically specialized webshops. A Coolblue inspired business model. And the passionate entrepreneurs have bigger aspirations still, trying to expand business into other countries. They already have online shops active in Germany, the fortunate border location made that the obvious region of choice. Next will be Belgium, France and Spain. Maarten: “We spot so many chances. Get the idea and go for it, that’s our motto.”

Innovative ideas to discover at the Mimaki booth presenting at LUXE PACK and Print in Progress

Demonstrating unlimited possibilities for digital print in packaging, visual communications and retail at two important trade show events

Mimaki will be showcasing innovative solutions for packaging, visual communications and retail enabled by digital printing at two important French events this autumn. RUDI a.s. Improves Customer Service, Broadens Range of Offerings, in Partnership with Mimaki and SPANDEX

RUDI a.s., based in the Czech Republic, was founded in 1990 as a privately-held company, transforming itself into a joint stock company in 1995. The company boasts a wide range of client services around offset, digital and large format printing; graphic design; and prepress preparation. RUDI has always been dedicated to staying up with technology trends to be able to offer superior quality services that set them apart in the marketplace. Product offerings comprise display graphics (including vehicle wraps and bus shelters), marketing collateral, business cards and letterhead, menus, web and graphic design, and promotional items such as jigsaw puzzles, flags, stickers, mouse pads, calendars and more.

“In order to retain our market leadership,” said Daniel Růžička, RUDI Co-Founder, “we decided to replace our three older eco-solvent printers with a more modern solution that would expand our range of services even more while increasing throughput and allowing us to reduce the amount of outsourced work we had. We were pleased with the Japanese quality of the Mimaki printers, as well as the exceptional service from SPANDEX. We could have purchased a printer from China at a lower price, but service and support can be an issue. We needed a relationship that assured both quality and maximum up-time. We have not been disappointed.” RUDI chose to install a Mimaki UJV55-320 super wide format UV-LED printer, a 3.2-meter roll-to-roll model featuring seven ink colours including white for printing on transparent or coloured media.

The day the new printer was installed was exciting for two reasons. First, the installation process was tricky, since the printer was installed through an attic window that was only 2 cm wider than the printer. Using a crane and expert operators, this process was accomplished smoothly. Even more exciting according to Růžička, was the fact that the printer was installed in one morning, with training the following day. “In just two days, we were up and running, and producing billable work. It was an amazing experience,” he added.

Why Mimaki?

Růžička chose UV LED technology due to its many benefits, including:

  • The long lifespan of LED lamps compared to conventional lamps.
  • The fact that LEDs do not need to be heated and cooled, but only switched on and off – for an immediate start.
  • The ability to cure at a low temperature, without damage to heat-sensitive materials that are less expensive and cost less to ship.
  • Low power consumption (a 220v connection is sufficient for the printer).

Růžička noted, “This and other investments ensure we have sufficient production capacity, giving us the throughput speed required in today’s fast-paced market while preventing unnecessary price increases we might face if we had to outsource the work. By staying current with technology and ensuring adequate capacity, we can produce most, if not all, of our work internally. That is the goal.”

New Opportunities

Růžička comments that in addition to more capacity and improved quality, he is excited about UV LED printing technology as an opportunity to expand his offerings, saying, “Direct UV printing also opens the door for us to print directly on rigid materials such as foam core, wood, plastic and glass up to 2 x 3 meters and 45 mm thick. Other wide format products that are better suited to this technology include our vehicle wraps and bus shelters as well as wall coverings.”

Enthusiastic and Timely Support

RUDI has also been pleased with the support it is receiving from both Mimaki and SPANDEX. “We like the fact that there is local support,” Růžička stated. “As I mentioned, we could have acquired a printer out of China for less up-front money, but we risked greater costs in the long run. If there is a printer issue and you are looking for support from China, it is difficult to get that support quickly, even online, due to the time difference. When this happens, work stops, deliveries are late, and our reputation declines. For that reason, we place emphasis on prompt, high quality service and the availability of timely in-person, online or telephone consultation. SPANDEX has a sufficient number of service technicians, offers a 24-hour service guarantee, deliveries of materials through its own distribution channel and other services facilitating our work. Plus, they know the Mimaki printer line inside-out. In addition, there is a team of pleasant and stable employees working at SPANDEX, with whom you can quickly create personal relationships. For these reasons, Mimaki and SPANDEX were the clear choice for us.”
